Free Wi-Fi services for international visitors on Toei subway trains

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government Bureau of Transportation, in collaboration with NTT Broadband Platform, Inc. (NTTBP) and Wire and Wireless Co., Ltd. (Wi2), is steadily introducing free Wi-Fi services as follows to 147 trains on four Toei Subway lines in order to raise convenience for international visitors to Japan.

The first to introduce services was the Toei Asakusa Line, a line that also connects to the airport. It is planned to roll out this service to all Toei subway trains by March 2020, prior to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Starting from the Asakusa Line, services will steadily be expanded to other Toei subway lines.
Order of introduction: Asakusa Line (27 trains) ⇒Oedo Line (55 trains) ⇒Mita Line (37 trains) ⇒ Shinjuku Line (28 trains)

Service contents

(1) “Toei Subway Free Wi-Fi” provided by NTTBP

Duration of use: Up to 180 minutes per connection. No limit to the number of connections per day
SSID: Toei_Subway_Free_Wi-Fi
Service fee: Free
Languages: English, Chinese (simplified and traditional), Korean, Japanese
How to use: Select the SSID and register for use
Features: Partner services with FREE Wi-Fi & TOKYO without the need of an app (see (1) in the attachment)
Compatible with Android/iOS app “Japan Connected-free Wi-Fi” (see (2) in the attachment)

NTT docomo “docomo Wi-Fi” subscribers can also use docomo Wi-Fi. For details, visit the website of NTT docomo (in Japanese)

(2) “TRAVEL JAPAN Wi-Fi” provided by Wi2

Duration of use: No limits
SSID: Wi2
Service fee: Free
Languages: English, Chinese (simplified and traditional), Korean, Thai
How to use: Can be used by downloading “TRAVEL JAPAN Wi-Fi”, the free Android/iOS-compatible app for international visitors (see (3) in the attachment)
Features: The TRAVEL JAPAN Wi-Fi app automatically provides information on nearby Wi-Fi hotspots and other useful information

Wi2 “Wi2 300”, “au Wi-Fi SPOT”, and“UQ Wi-Fi Premium”subscribers can also use this Wi-Fi service with no additional charge. Visit the following websites for details.
