Tsukiji Market’s tuna auction observation area closed to visitors
from December to mid-January

Tsukiji Market’s tuna auction observation area is temporarily closed to visitors until mid-January. This is a measure taken every year to ensure visitor safety and smooth business operations, as the market is particularly busy during the year-end and New Year seasons.

Period of Closure

From Thursday, December 1, 2016 to Saturday, January 14, 2017
(The observation area will be reopened on Monday, January 16, 2017.)

Notices to visitors

  1. During the above-mentioned period, notices of the closure are being posted near the entrance gates (including the main gate) and at the Fish Information Center (the office where visitors register to observe the tuna auction).
  2. Security guards will be stationed in front of the tuna auction observation area to inform visitors that the area is temporarily closed.

Other

While visitors are not admitted to the tuna auction area, the intermediate wholesalers area (from 10 a.m.) and purveyors of market-related goods (shops and restaurants) are open to visitors as usual.
