Additional information on TMG disaster language volunteers
A system in which Tokyo residents, including foreign residents, who have a certain level of language skill can register as volunteers. These volunteers support non-Japanese speakers when a large-scale disaster occurs by providing interpretation and translation services. In normal times, they also serve as volunteer interpreters on occasion. (As of April 1, 2017, 682 people are registered volunteers, offering support in 15 languages.)
