ウィリー・バンクス氏、マイク・パウエル氏、カール・ルイス氏が知事を表敬
Athletics Legends Visit Governor Inose
平成25（2013）年3月25日（月曜）、米国の元陸上選手、ウィリー・バンクス氏（三段跳び元世界記録保持者）、マイク・パウエル氏（走り幅跳び現世界記録保持者）、カール・ルイス氏（100メートル走元世界記録保持者）の3名が猪瀬知事を表敬訪問しました。
宮城県仙台市や石巻市で開催された『東北スポーツサミット2013』に参加してきた3名のスター選手からは「2年前、被災地の子供たちの顔は暗かったが、今回スポーツサミットでは笑顔にあふれていた」「東京でオリンピック・パラリンピックが実現すればきっと子供たちも明るくなる」との話がありました。猪瀬知事は「被災地の子供たちに直接指導して頂いたことは、彼らに勇気を与えました。子供たちの未来を是非一緒につくりましょう」と感謝の言葉を述べました。
On Monday, March 25, former U.S. athletics champions Willie Banks (former triple jump world record holder), Mike Powell (long jump world record holder), and Carl Lewis (former 100-meter world record holder) paid a courtesy call on Governor Inose.
The three star athletes had just returned from participating in the Tohoku Sports Summit 2013 held in the cities of Sendai and Ishinomaki, Miyagi prefecture. They commented that “The children in the disaster-stricken areas looked sad two years ago, but they were all smiles at the Sports Summit,” and that “If Tokyo hosts the Olympic and Paralympic Games, it would definitely cheer the kids up.” The governor expressed his appreciation, saying, “You gave the children of the Tohoku area courage by coaching them. Let’s work together to create a good future for our children.”
