Governor Returns from New York

On Friday, April 19, Governor Inose returned from his official visit to New York. Surrounded by the press at Narita Airport, the governor summarized the accomplishments of his trip as follows.

“New York is Tokyo’s first sister city. Since new, future challenges for the world make their appearance in cities, we agreed to share and find solutions to these issues as the two most advanced cities of the world, and shook hands over this. I think we will be able to communicate with each other whenever necessary. Mayor Bloomberg also mentioned his support for Tokyo’s Olympic bid.

Subways and buses operate 24 hours a day in New York. I announced that, as our first step, we will also have metropolitan buses (Toei Bus) operate between Shibuya and Roppongi all night long. I also plan to have many companies from abroad set up operations in Tokyo as this will help boost Tokyo’s economy.

With regard to power reform, the United States is ahead of us in opening the electricity market. In New York I was able to inspect a power plant where an independent power producer was replacing the old generators with new ones.”
