On Tuesday, November 28, Governor Koike met with Mr. Ong Ye Kung, Singapore’s Minister for Education (Higher Education and Skills) and Second Minister for Defence, at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.

The governor reflected on her visit to Singapore this November, where she gave a public lecture on global finance and met with students. She expressed her gratitude and said, “While I was only in Singapore briefly, it was a meaningful visit.” She also mentioned the used cell phone Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong presented her, saying, “A phone was given to me so that its parts can be used for the medals for the Tokyo 2020 Games. I hope the Singaporean athletes will take it back as medals when they come in 2020.”

Minister Ong said, “Singapore is facing various issues, such as an aging population. It is important to tackle these issues using advanced technology,” expressing his wish for Singapore to learn from Japan’s advanced technology.
