Message to the People of Tokyo: Refrain From Going Out at Night(message from the Governor)

I would like to thank you—the people of Tokyo—for your cooperation in staying home and avoiding the “three Cs”: closed spaces with poor ventilation, places where groups of people gather closely together, and close conversation.
However, Tokyo is still at a critical phase, which will determine whether or not we see an explosive rise in novel coronavirus infections.
Through expert analysis conducted by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare’s COVID-19 Response Headquarters, it has become clear that many of the COVID-19 cases in Tokyo with an unknown infection route involved transmission among groups at bars, nightclubs, and similar establishments.
To curb the spread of infection, I would like to request your cooperation in refraining from going out at night especially.
Your actions will save lives! Let’s overcome this difficult challenge together!

Hello everyone. I am Koike Yuriko, Governor of Tokyo.

We are now at the critical phase where we face the risk of an explosive rise in novel coronavirus infections.
Please stay at home and refrain from going outside this weekend, and hold back from going out at night.

There are no problems with food production or supply. Please act calmly.

Let me repeat what I just said. Please stay at home and refrain from going outside this weekend.
The actions of each and every one of you will save lives.
Let’s overcome this crisis together.

Message from Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko on COVID 19

Message from Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko on COVID 19 (External link)

Hello everyone. I am Koike Yuriko, Governor of Tokyo.

Reports of the spread of the novel coronavirus infection are coming in every day from around the globe. I believe everyone in the world is now feeling anxious and facing the most difficult of times as our daily lives undergo drastic changes.

May I take this opportunity to express my deepest respects to the health care workers around the world who are at the front lines, fighting this “invisible enemy.”

There is still much that we do not know about this virus, and on top of this, so much conflicting information. I believe that this is making many people feel concerned about the situation.

We all need to be “properly concerned.” Upon this understanding, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has launched a special site on the novel coronavirus, called Stopcovid19. This is a one-stop site that provides objective data possessed by the various bureaus of our government.
Not only does this site provide figures on the current situation in Tokyo, but it also incorporates universal design, graphs and other approaches to provide everyone with accurate information in an easy-to-understand way.

In order to deliver solid facts to people around the world who are closely watching Tokyo’s situation, we have also launched the English, Chinese , and Korean language sites.

Our Stopcovid19 site is open source programming with the data also open to the public.
I hope that other municipalities in Japan and cities overseas will make good use of this data.

As COVID19 spreads to all corners of the globe, it is crucial for the whole world to come together to collectively respond to this crisis.
Let’s beat this, and return to normal everyday life.

A message from the Governor regarding the novel coronavirus

Cases of the novel coronavirus have been reported worldwide, mainly in the People’s Republic of China.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has already established the Tokyo Novel Coronavirus Response Headquarters, and is devoting all of its efforts to preventing the spread of this infectious disease to ensure the safety and peace of mind of the people of Tokyo.

We would like to request that the people of Tokyo make a concerted effort to take basic precautions generally taken for infectious diseases, such as practicing cough etiquette (covering your mouth and nose with a tissue, etc.) and washing your hands, just as you would to prevent influenza.

If you have any questions regarding the novel coronavirus, including questions related to preventing the infection and what to do when concerning symptoms develop, you can consult with your local public health center or contact the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s dedicated call center at 0570-550571.

Information on prevention measures and other topics is provided on the Tokyo Metropolitan Government website.

Novel Coronavirus Telephone Consultation Centers have also been set up at local public health centers to accept calls from those with a fever or respiratory symptoms and who have recently traveled to Hubei Province, China or may have been in contact with an infected individual or patient. The Centers will refer consultees to a medical institution as necessary.
