Test drive of a fuel cell vehicle

On Friday, November 21, the governor had an opportunity to take a test drive in the world’s first fuel cell vehicle to be sold commercially.

Giving his impressions to members of the press following the test drive, the governor said that the fuel cell vehicle was extremely quiet with good acceleration, and compared very favorably with gasoline-powered vehicles. He expressed his desire to increase the number of hydrogen fueling stations in anticipation of the growth of fuel cell vehicles. As they emit no exhaust gases and emit only water, fuel cell vehicles are very environmentally friendly. He commented that Japanese technological ingenuity was behind the realization of something so wonderful before anywhere else in the world, and he hoped that further advances would be made toward realizing a hydrogen-based society.
