Ahead of the Tokyo Marathon, on Friday, February 20, special guest athletes from abroad, London 2012 Men’s Marathon gold medalist Stephen Kiprotich of Uganda and Women’s Marathon gold medalist Tiki Gelana of Ethiopia, paid a courtesy call on the governor, along with Japanese guest athletes Arata Fujiwara and Azusa Nojiri.

The governor welcomed the athletes and expressed encouragement saying, “At this marathon, there will be about 10,000 volunteers participating. With the support of all Tokyo residents, I hope to lead this event to success. I sincerely hope that all of the athletes will be able to put forth their best and make great achievements.”

Afterwards, the governor had a friendly conversation with the athletes about topics including their aspirations for the marathon, training regimens, and impressions of Tokyo.
