On Tuesday, March 17, Mr. Francis Tolentino, Chairman of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and a group of mayors of cities that make up Metropolitan Manila paid a courtesy call on Governor Masuzoe.

Addressing the group, the governor said, “Both Tokyo and Manila are areas of the world that frequently experience natural disasters such as earthquakes and typhoons. As such, I want to work with all of you so that we can be better prepared to face natural disasters. In addition, we have had a relationship with the MMDA for over 15 years through the Asian Network of Major Cities 21, and we continue to cooperate on projects such as the Network for Crisis Management and Countermeasures to Combat Infectious Diseases in Asia. I hope to continue even more of this kind of practical cooperation. Five years from now, Tokyo will host the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, which I hope to make a great success. I look forward to welcoming many athletes and spectators from the Philippines to the Games.”
