On Tuesday, May 19, Governor Masuzoe attended the first meeting of the Tokyo Brand Promotion Council.

This council was established to build the “Tokyo brand” concept to attract more foreign tourists to Tokyo in the period leading up to the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond. At the first meeting, participants discussed measures for sharing and promoting the Tokyo brand.

During the meeting, the governor said, “Tourism branding is essential to achieving our goal of attracting 15 million foreign visitors in 2020. Also, it is important to grow Tokyo’s fan base throughout the world. If more foreign people visit not only Tokyo, but also other parts of Japan, that will generate more business opportunities in this country. I hope to promote our Tokyo brand initiative as the first step to uplifting all of Japan.”
