Tokyo and Moscow sign an agreement for exchange and cooperation

On Thursday, October 22, Sergei Sobyanin, Mayor of Moscow, visited the Tokyo Metropolitan Government office and met with Governor Masuzoe.

The Governor and Mayor acknowledged the cooperation to date between the two cities and affirmed that they wish to deepen further the relationship.

Following their meeting, the Governor and Mayor signed a memorandum of understanding on exchange and cooperation between Tokyo and Moscow. The two cities will cultivate exchange and collaboration in the fields of urban development, sports and waste management.

At the joint press conference after the signing, Governor Masuzoe said: “With this agreement I believe we have laid the foundations for a new win-win relationship between Moscow and Tokyo. I would like for us to be good partners through continued practical exchange.”

After the press conference, Governor Masuzoe hosted Mayor Sobyanin in a walk and traditional tea ceremony at the Hama-rikyu Gardens.
