7. For a bright future beyond 2020

I have explained the numerous policies we will be taking for the development of Tokyo. I need not mention that these initiatives cannot be fully implemented by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government alone. Through firm collaboration with the central government, as well as by taking the lead over the central government in the implementation of policies, I want Tokyo to ensure the revitalization of Japan. We will strive to boost all of Japan by deepening relationships with not just the municipalities of Tokyo, but subnational governments around Japan as well, and combine the attractions of each.

The voting age will be lowered from this year. The new 18 and older eligible voters will have a say in the future of Japan for the longest period of time ever. I hope that young people raise their voices and actively participate in society for the future of Tokyo and Japan.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government will continue to show the future vision of an evolving city. Tokyo’s grand design for the 2040s—this will be achieved by today’s youth. In order to ensure that Tokyo will continue to shine in the years beyond 2020, and in order for Tokyo and the rest of Japan to keep on developing in our children and grandchildren’s generations, I am determined to devote my utmost efforts for the management of Tokyo’s affairs while working closely with the honorable members of this Assembly. Your understanding and cooperation shall be greatly appreciated.

Including the matters to which I have already referred, a total of 126 proposals including 30 budget bills and 76 ordinance proposals have been presented to this regular session of the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly to be deliberated among the Assembly members.

This concludes my policy address to the Assembly. Thank you.
