Joint Declaration

The Greater London Authority which is a statutory corporation of London, capital of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Tokyo Metropolitan Government which is an administrative body of Tokyo, capital of Japan, declare the establishment of a friendship city relationship for the purpose of deepening mutual understanding, strengthening the mutual bonds between the two cities and jointly tackling many common challenges we are facing through sharing best practices and ideas in the field of city administration.

We believe this declaration will be of great benefit to the citizens of our two cities to bring the continued prosperity and improve their quality of life.

Therefore, let it be known that the Greater London Authority and Tokyo Metropolitan Government, on behalf of citizens of each city, do affirm their determination to preserve and enhance the close friendship between the two cities.

This declaration has been made in duplicate in both English and Japanese, both equally authentic.
