Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 “One Year to Go” Ceremony and Several Projects to Begin One Year Before the Games

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG), working in conjunction with the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and related organisations, will conduct a variety of projects to highlight the one-year marks before the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 in order to build up momentum for the Games. The one year milestone for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 is Wednesday 24 July and the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games milestone is Sunday 25 August.
We are pleased to announce that these projects will begin from July.

1. Celebrate “One Year to Go!” at Tokyo Stadium Together with the Tokyo 2020 Mascots, One Year Since Their Debut!

Monday 22 July from 9:30 to 10:30

Tokyo Stadium (376-3 Nishimachi, Chofu-shi, Tokyo)

Content:

Celebrating the first anniversary of the Tokyo 2020 Mascots’ debut, the mascots and children from neighboring cities will gather to make a human letter in the shape of “1” in commemoration of 1 year to go until the Tokyo 2020 Games.

* This event is planned for media photography. Attendance to the ceremony is by invitation only.

2. “One Year to Go” Ceremony

3. Public Transport Decorations

One year before the Games, in cooperation with private businesses, operation of train cars and buses wrapped with decorations of the Tokyo 2020 Mascots will begin as a promotion for the Games.

1. Tama Monorail

Period: From Wednesday 24 July 2019 to the close of the Games in 2020
Number of Vehicles: 1 train with 4 cars

2. Toei Buses, Odakyu Buses, Keio Buses and Seibu Buses

Period: From Wednesday 24 July 2019 to the close of the Games in 2020
Number of Buses: Total of 31 buses
Note) The number of buses will be increased sequentially from 24 July. Currently 18 buses are in operation and additional 31 buses planned for operation.
(breakdown) 18 Toei Buses, 5 Odakyu Buses, 5 Keio Buses and 3 Seibu Buses

4. Tokyo 2020 One Year to Go Light-up

In cooperation with the locations below, illuminations will be arranged to commemorate one year to go before the Games from Wednesday 24 July to Friday 6 September.

Tokyo Metropolitan Government No.1 Building (2-8-1 Nishi-shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo)

Time:

From 19:00 to 23:00 daily

Content:

  1.  Olympic period (from Wednesday 24 July to Friday 9 August)
    Illuminated in the five colours of the Olympic Symbol (Blue, Yellow, Black, Green, Red)
  2.  Inter-games period (from Saturday 10 August to Saturday 24 August)
    During this time, the illuminations will alternate every 30 minutes between the five colours of the Olympic Symbol and the three colours of the Paralympic Symbol (Red, Blue, Green)
  3.  Paralympic period (from Sunday 25 August to Friday 6 September)
    Illuminated in the three colours of the Paralympic Symbol

Komazawa Olympic Park, Olympics Memorial Tower (1-1 Komazawa-koen, Setagaya-ku, Tokyo)

Time:

From 19:00 to 23:00 daily

Content:

  1.  Olympic period (from Wednesday 24 July to Friday 9 August)
    Illuminated in the five colours of the Olympic Symbol
  2.  Inter-games period (from Saturday 10 August to Saturday 24 August)
