A first for Tokyo!
Smartphone payment of water & sewer bills!

The Bureau of Waterworks has been advancing efforts to enhance customer convenience for the payment of bills such as introducing bank transfers and credit card payments.
Now, cashless settlement of bills by smartphone payment has been introduced for the first time by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.

1. Smartphone payment overview

Customers can settle water/sewer bills with electronic money by reading the barcode on the bill with their smartphone camera.

  • Make cashless payments easily from home or anywhere.
  • Make payments anytime before the bill’s payment due date.
  • Check payment history with a dedicated app.

This is a great improvement to customer convenience

2. Available smartphone payment services (scheduled to be expanded)

  • LINE Pay
    Service provided by LINE Pay Corporation (available in English, Chinese, Korean, and other languages)
  • PayB
    Service provided by Billing System Corporation

3. Operation start date

Monday, July 1, 2019

4. Note

A receipt will not be issued for smartphone payment. If you require a receipt, please make the payment at a bank or convenience store.

5. Others

Other than the above smartphone settlement, the following cashless payments are possible at some convenience stores.

  • nanaco
  • WAON(Ministop only)
