Opening of a connecting north-south harbor road in Tokyo Port

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) are pleased to announce the opening of a connecting north-south harbor road in Tokyo Port (The Umi no Mori Tunnel and Umi no Mori Bridge). This comes as part of the TMG and MLIT’s initiatives to strengthen and expand the road network around Tokyo Port to make it smoother and more efficient.

1 About the opening

  • Date and time
    Saturday, June 20, 2020 at 12:00pm
  • Section to be opened
    An approx. 3.7km tunnel from Ariake 4-chome to the Central Breakwater Outer Site, Umi no Mori 3-chome

2 Important information

  • Please do not wait around the area for the road to open.
  • Congestion is expected immediately after the opening, so please follow the directions of the officials in charge.
  • Bicycles and 2-wheeled motor vehicles under 50cc may not travel on the roadway in Umi no Mori Tunnel. The walkway is currently not available for use.
  • During the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020, it is anticipated that measures will be taken to relieve traffic around Games venues. Further details will be announced once confirmed.
