Establishment of CHANGE, an international city network for gender equality

We are pleased to announce that the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has become a co-founder of CHANGE (the City Hub and Network for Gender Equity), the world’s first international city network dedicated to the pursuit of gender equality.
Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko joined the opening event with a video message. The content of her message is attached with this notice.

1. About the network

(1) Name of the network

CHANGE (City Hub And Network for Gender Equity)

(2) Purpose

CHANGE was established with the aim of sharing best practices in tackling sexism, misogyny, and gender-based injustice in liaison with the co-founding cities.

(3) Co-founding cities

Barcelona, Freetown, London, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Tokyo (in alphabetical order)
* The mayor of Los Angeles was chosen to be the first chairperson of the network.

2. Opening event

The leader of each city gave a brief presentation on the current situation, efforts, and future vision of gender equality. Tokyo Governor Koike joined via video message.
